Virtual Art Build for Earth Day 2020

In April 2020, we launched a virtual art build in preparation for Earth Day, gathering over 100 community members to make individual letters spelling out a collective message of climate crisis solidarity and celebration of our earth. Because social distancing was in full effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we engaged the community via email and Facebook. Go to our Earth Day 2020 page to see the result and read our community’s full Earth Day message!

Legislature actions, Winter 2020

Extinction Rebellion of New Mexico (XR-NM)’s Climate Action group publicly debuted by meeting legislators and visitors to the Roundhouse on the opening day of the 54th legislature with flags, banners, music, dancing, and leaflets demanding the state declare a climate emergency and take a stand against the powerful oil and gas lobby. XR-NM stood in support later that day of action by the youth climate activists of YUCCA and also conducted a disruptive jacket brigade within the roundhouse, unfurling a large banner reading Extraction = Extinction. On closing day of the legislature, XR-NM Climate Action group delivered “report cards” to each legislator and the governor, awarding a grade of F- for climate inaction and failure to take steps to protect our children and our future during this session.
